My BIG Life List

  • Sharebar

Thanks for coming here! That means you are interested in this concept of a BIG life! To me living my BIG life means among other things that I am doing things.  I think sometimes this means that I am fulfilling a suppressed dream or I am doing something new and exciting, especially if it scares the crap out of me.  Other times it might mean doing something I want to even when others tell me I can’t.  Actually, especially when others tell me I can’t.

I will add things here as I decide that I am going to do them.  My intention is to live this list in public partly so that I have additional accountability to push through the things I said I would do as soon as I embark on doing them and to combat my natural urges will be to quit.  The second reason is of course for you my reader.  I hope that seeing me get through my BIG life list will give you the strength to get through yours.  This in a nutshell is the overall purpose of this blog.  Lean in and lean on I say. Let’s roll…

Learn Spanish

Status: Started February 2011

No question one of my biggest regrets in life is not knowing more then one language.  Why spanish?  Well besides that it is the language of Love, I think it is spoken widely in the areas of the world that I would like to spend more time in.  As well my assistant is fluent in Spanish and so I can practice more.  I got ripped off by a language hacking guide I bought on-line.  All fluff, no tips.  Do not buy the Language Hacking Guide by Benny Lewis.

My next strategy I think is to buy a Rosetta Stone Course and tear into it. My ultimate strategy will be to spend a month in a Spanish speaking country within the next 12 months. I will keep you posted.

Learn Meditation

Status: Started January 2011

This has been surprisingly refreshing.  I have been pretty regular with my meditation practice and I would say the benefit is learning how to slow my mind down and also how to limit multi-tasking.  I am looking forward to the continued learnings of meditation, and the spiritual practice of Mysticism. I think I will continue to do this until I work up the nerve to go to a meditation retreat, whereby you have to sit silently for hours per day and no speaking for days on end…LOL even saying that makes me wonder how I could pull that off, but that is my goal.

Get Serious about a Philanthropic Pursuit

Status: Researching

I think this is the most important thing any of us can do.  How do I serve? How do I take my obligation to use my gifts to seriously help others.  To be clear I want to have a philanthropic experience that will rock me to my core.  Volunteering for a local organization, a homeless shelter, or sitting on the Calgary Homeless foundation board, are all things I have done, and they did not move me like I want.  In fact this is an area of my life I have allowed to take a back seat.  I know in order to fill up my abundance tank, I have to give more, and I am committed to this.

There are more things I am thinking about, but since this is a not a game of how many things can I say I want to do, it is a game of actually doing the things I say, I want to focus on these things.  I will post updates to my pursuits here as I work through them.

Once again I appreciate you for being here, I encourage you to pick a few things you want to do.  Let me know I am here to help you.

Really Amp Up My Writing

Status: Started May 2011

I want to write a book.  The idea scares the crap out of me.  Must be right then.  In order to prepare for that I want to really be challenged in my writing.  I am happy I found the Trust 30 project.  An on-line community of the most provocative thinkers started a challenge.  Write something EVERY day for thirty days.  Seems easy enough but to really make it great they will send me a prompt every morning, think like a challenge, to force me to believe in me and my message. Be self reliant, and be original.  Check out the Trust 30 category on my blog to see the thirty posts I wrote for this project.
