Let me start out by saying that I realize this video is controversial to some.  But if you can really open your mind to another perspective you will see Rex’s point, although we can all agree the tar sands is a scar on this planet, but what choice do we have if everyone in the world wants to live they way we do?Thanks Rex,Video

    Hi Greg,
Below is friend of mine who works for a very large environmental solutions company related to oil field. Just thought it would be a different perspective from a guy who is right there in the trenches. He also pulled a quote from a inhabitant from the east coast.—–

I have that NG issue but haven’t had a chance to read the article yet. I did look at the pictures and I thought that it was a fair representation of the devastating environmental impact that oil sands mining has. I cut this comment from Rex Murphy’s page which sums up my thoughts:

I am presenly employed in the oil sands industry and am from New Brunswick. Rex makes very good points but most of you take them way too far. Yes everything is made of oil and we need it…HOWEVER that doesnt mean we shouldnt be doing more to protect our enviromnet and to obtain the oil in a more sustainable manner. I sincerely hope this “recession” makes the self-centered Albertans realize that without your oil revenues you would just be another average joe province asking the feds for money.

We need oil, but we also need to protect our land, water and air.

I think Rex Murphy is an idiot sometimes. This to me stinks of one of those random “let’s show people that CBC isn’t the left-leaning institution that everyone thinks we are” stories. Like I said, I haven’t read the article but I’m sure that NGs point would be that we have the capabilities to extract oil from the tar sands in a more sustainable manner. I’m also not saying that we don’t need it but I know that we have better technology because I’ve seen it on T.V. and through my work. The big oil companies just don’t care to change the status quo and who can blame them when our government allows it to continue.
